When the ALS Labels Production Manager, Tim Lancaster, said he was dressing up as a film star for a good cause, we thought maybe something like…. Indiana Jones or James Bond but no, when we heard it was Toy Story’s Mr Potato Head, we were somewhat intrigued….
You see, when Tim isn’t running our label printing and converting division, he is very active in Thame’s Round Table and when news came through of a friend’s little boy, Oliver Lee, being diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer before his second birthday, they all felt compelled to do something to help raise money and awareness of this terrible condition.
So in order to raise as much money as possible, they wanted to do something a little less ordinary and decided to enter the Scally Rally (https://twitter.com/scallyrally), a bizarre 4-day road rally-cum-treasure hunt event that covers 1,400 gruelling miles from Caernarfon, through Lytham St Annes, on to Dumfries, then Oban and ending in Fort William, without using motorways or major roads. All this while dressed up as characters from the Toy Story films and driving an old converted Saab 93 that has undergone serious modification and a complete paint-job to resemble “RC Racer”, the car from the same films.
Inspired by young Oliver, “Team Ollie RC” comprises; Woody, Buzz, Mr Potato Head and Sarge the Green Army Man and they are encouraging us to join them and help by making a donation to the children’s cancer charity, CLIC Sargent.
