What do we do?
Here at Advanced Labelling Systems Ltd (ALS) we build industrial labelling machines and manufacture printed self-adhesive labels at our Oxfordshire base, in the beautiful market town of Thame, where we have our own machine assembly workshop and label printing & converting facilities.
Our past
ALS was set up by Noel Donaldson back in 1997 from the UK operation of Avery Dennison. It ran as family business for 25 years in the hands of his son, Phil and his team, when in 2023 we sold a majority stake to Possehl Group to help us grow the business, where we continue to operate under the same principles of employing good people, nurturing young talent and providing our customers with a quality product backed up by excellent service.
Customer support
Using our own Technical Sales Engineers and Field Service Engineers who are spread regionally across the UK and with an ever expanding network of support partners in the Possehl Identification Solutions (PID) Group across Europe and the rest of the World, we are well positioned to support our customers.
We are good listeners
We believe that if we take the time to listen to our customers and properly understand their needs, we can use our years of experience and “know-how” to solve their problems. We employ motivated people with the ability to make it happen, so we end up supplying the right labelling machine for the job and the right labels for the product. Items that will not only meet but exceed customers’ expectations, come within budget and delivered on time.

Our customers are of all sizes, from big and small, across all types of industries, including; food, beverage, pharmaceutical, medical device, cosmetic, personal care, agrochemical, tobacco, e-liquid, FMCG, logistics, security and more. Apart from our custom systems, ALS has one of the widest, most complete range of standard labellers and feeders on the market, which are all well-proven in industrial manufacturing and warehousing environments.
Our future
Always looking forward, there are also challenges to face but we handle these by encouraging and supporting our people to be pro-active, think creatively and act responsibly, so that they build on their existing skills and develop new abilities. This helps the business to run more efficiently and remain profitable. L. Possehl & Co. mbH is a group of medium-sized industrial companies managed in the Hanseatic tradition. There are currently more than 200 companies, with around 13,000 employees worldwide, with over half being based in Germany. The companies preserve and maintain their unique identity and continue to develop independently within our group. As a successful and diverse positioned group with a history spanning 174 years, the name POSSEHL stands for entrepreneurial spirit, tradition and responsibility.
The company was established in Lübeck by Ludwig Possehl in 1847 for local trading in iron goods. The non-profit foundation Possehl-Stiftung has been the sole shareholder since 1919. The corporate structure enables the POSSEHL Group to remain independent and lays the foundations for long-term corporate decisions.
